Okay, I think it’s about time I put it out on the table, but the only reason that Kayla and I packed up and drove 7 hours to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Dragon*con, wandered around lost in huge crowds, spent too much money, and didn’t get enough sleep was for the sake of seeing the mighty creators of The Venture Bros.; Jackson Public and Doc Hammer (Bonus points for James Urbaniak!!).
In fact, the only two panels we even actually made it to were both about Venture, and it was amazing! We managed to make it quite successfully to the big giant Official Venture Bros. Panel, where we got quite good seats to see Jackson, James, and Doc host a faux talk show style Q&A panel (after showing clips from season 5!!!) called LET’S ALL SMOKING! It was beautiful, and exciting, and I had a wonderful time. Afterward, we were whisked away with the crowd and actually managed to get into a line of only 100 people who were able to meet the creators (genius’), get autographs, pictures, etc.
As you can see they all signed my lovely Venture Bros. remix tee shirt that I had bought SPECIALLY for the occasion. I got to tell Jackson how I loved an old comic of his I had seen, I told James how I related his work on SVU to Dr. Venture, and got to tell Doc how my Mother loves his paintings (as she’s a fan of Rembrandt, at which he showed me a tattoo around his right wrist of Rembrandt’s signature for inspiration as an oil painter); then he proceeded to fold my shirt like a GAP employee. Despite having a heart full to bursting, and a slight tremor of nerves over the wonderful encounter Kayla and I walked on our way quite calmly; and then spazzed hardcore in the bathroom. Hahaha! They were all so kind, and beautiful, and I can’t wait to go back next year!!
